It’s official! Swift Grow can grow plants on the Moon & Mars!

Our news is so exciting here at Swift Grow this week. Swift Grow has gone to the moon! Well, almost – the moon has come to us.  We were recently approached by The Planetary Society with an offer to provide us samples of Moon Dirt & Martian Soil to help with their research on growing food on other planets.

Can Swift Grow Help Grow Food On The Moon?

We’ve put Swift Grow to the test, and the results are in!  We are extremely proud to report that within 5 days, we confirmed that yes! Swift Grow can in fact grow food on the Moon and Mars! They do say to reach for the moon when you dream of what’s possible, and working on a project of this size is nothing short of a dream come true for what is possible for Swift Grow, plants and science. 

Who Is The Planetary Society?

The Planetary Society is a member-funded nonprofit organisation dedicated to advancing space science and exploration. They are an international organisation that is independent with a simple mission: “Empowering the world’s citizens to advance space science and exploration”.

What Is Moon Dirt?

We currently have around 1kg of Moon Dirt and Martian Soil in our Swift Grow labs. But what is Moon Dirt?
Well, we do have real, authentic moon matter on earth, however to make research at scale possible, scientists have cleverly analysed and simulated its composition to create a replica called regolith that allows such important research to be carried out.

What Is The Next Step?

To continue our research, we’ve received what we are referring to as a Planetary Dome. The dome is really an exaggerated greenhouse, and it’s being constructed to allow us to continue our research and learn more about the potential for Swift Grow to head to space.

For our products to be considered for use in space exploration is truly beyond our wildest dreams, and we look extremely forward to sharing the journey as we learn all about the possibilities for Swift Grow to be part of the solution for growing food in space.
